At the newest McDonald's under construction here, customers will be able to order their Big Macs and Quarter Pounders five ways: from a table, from the counter, from an on-site kiosk, from a drive-thru and eventually from a cell phone.
The innovation starts withthe way customers order food at the restaurant being built at Powers Blvd. and Airport Road. Other high-tech features include Internets access adn using a prepaid food card. "Value is about time and money these days," said local McDonald's Franchisee Steve Bigari about his latest store. "Some want to come inside and spend time with their families and others want to get in and out with the minimal hassle. So technology afforded us the opportunity to do something a little more radical here."
For example, customers will be able to pick up a phone at their table to place and order - their food will be brought to them. "That makes it easier for parents to watch their kids," Bigari stated, " and that is conducive to family dining."
Besides high-tech aternatives to ordering dinner, the store will have an Internet kiosk where customers can check their e-mail. Most tables will have Internet access hookups for customers who want to work on laptops.
the Zoom-Through and Virtual Zoom-Through are essentially faster drive through. With the Zoom-Through, there's no menu available, so customers have to know what they want. They place an order , swipe their credit card and bypass the drive through and cashier by picking up their orders at a separate window. With the Virtual Zoom-Through, which will open later than the scheduled September opening of the rest of the store a customer can call in his order on the way to lunch and pay with a prepaid McDonald's card with payment taken off of the card.
The regular drive-thru is going high-tech. a digital camera wil shoot a picture of the vehicle and match the order to the car to cut down on order switches. the restaurant's new PlayPlace is more interactive than other s in town. It will have toy air traffic-control towe and a McDonald's kitchen, as well as a Nintendo and computer game kiosk for older kids.
